Our Curriculum

Our Seaton Curriculum Enrichment Offer

At Seaton Primary, every year group will experience the following over the course of their academic year:

A minimum of one curriculum enrichment trip linked to a topic per term

 A curriculum based visit to Seaton Beach and Seaton Wetlands

An adventurous activity trip to build resilience, self - confidence and teambuilding skills

History curriculum enrichment days in school  

 Forest School – Wild Passport

 Storytelling around the fire in the woods

 Swimming lessons in our on-site pool

Sea and Water safety workshop (RNLI or Coastguard)

Year group specific community projects linked to social responsibility and social confidence (community)

An author visit (virtual or in person)

Artist  in residence workshops (art, drama or music)

Whole class ensemble instrument lessons

STEM Day and Science Fair

    • Anti Bullying week (Autumn Term)

Oracy Week (Spring term)

A drama and musical performance to families

A family involvement workshopAn outreach project with Colyton Grammar School (PE, DT, Maths or STEM)

An opportunity to exhibit a piece of work in the school’s art exhibition

Sport and activity sessions at local community clubs (Tennis, Football, Cricket)

Seaton Primary Curriculum Implementation

Seaton Primary School uses the following programmes/associations to support teachers’ pedagogy and planning:

  • RWI Phonics (EYFS/KS1 and Year 5/6 Fresh Start)
  • Power Maths
  • Science - PLAN Science Materials & Developing Experts 
  • Seaton Writing Programme and Key Stage 2 Reading Programme
  • RE – Devon and Torbay Agreed Syllabus
  • PE - Real P.E 
  • History – Key Stage History
  • Geography – Geographical Association / Geographical Society
  • DT – Projects on a Page – D&T association
  • Computing – Teach Computing – The first lesson of each term is always an online safety lesson.
  • PSHE – The PSHE Assosciation and Thought Box 
  • SRE – Christopher Winter Project
  • Music – Charanga

The following subjects are taught discretely:

  • Every day – reading, writing, SPAG, maths, number fluency
  • Every Week – PSHE, science, computing, PE, RE

The following subjects require at least 6 hours of teaching per unit and this could be taught weekly or blocked into a few whole days:

History, geography, art, DT, music  and MFL E.g.

Forest School Wild Passport – Forest school programmes run for termly blocks and each child receives at least one block a year

Collective worship and singing occur weekly through assemblies.

Seaton Primary Curriculum Impact

At Seaton Primary, children are assessed during every lesson which enables our teachers to plan the next steps for each child. Teachers assess against the learning objectives and the basic skill requirements for each year group and provide live feedback which enables each pupil to make progress within the lesson and overtime. Children are expected to make good or better progress in all subjects and this individual progress is tracked and reported to families at family evenings and on the children's end of year report.

Seaton Primary uses rigorous triangulated monitoring throughout the year to gauge the impact of the curriculum design. Senior Leaders and Subject Leaders monitor individual subjects: reviewing learning, evaluating pupil voice, providing individual feedback to move practice forward, celebrating positives and highlighting areas of development that through coaching and continued professional development are developed and strengthened. The impact of the curriculum is reviewed half termly and progress is measured against end of year outcomes for individual pupils and for the year group.

Enjoyment of the curriculum promotes achievement, confidence and good behaviour. Children feel safe to try new things. The pupils will be able to work collaboratively with their peers and independently as inquisitive learners who are motivated to excel and who have a thirst for learning. The pupils will have a strong desire to embrace challenge and to be resilient learners. Our curriculum will also enable our pupils to become good citizens and demonstrate an appreciation for each other, the school community and the world. Our pupils will be respectful and will show tolerance and acceptance to those from different faiths and backgrounds.
